Muja Messiah + M.anifest + Illuminous 3 @ The Entry

So you missed the De La Soul after party in The Entry and you're feeling somehow left out. Here's something from the local Hip Hop archives. I didn't ask for and haven't obtained permission to circulate full sets but here's a few tracks to check out in the meantime. Please support the artists by picking up the official releases. Ron's the man. Unfortunately their van broke down and Written House did not make it to the show.

Muja Messiah & DJ Turtleneck, M.anifest and Illuminous 3 brought the party to The Entry:

Illuminous 3 - "94" Live @ The Entry

M.anifest - "Spell Check" Live @ The Entry
Muja Messiah - "Growing Pains" Live @ The Entry

This is honestly one of the best sets I have seen this year. I really look forward to seeing what else Pederson has in his guts. That's not to undersell the band whom really cinches everything together. I was still reeling in oblivion when this tape went down but I'm very happy to host it for anyone that wants to check it out. Don't miss out on "Amongst Friends" WAGTH's latest release. It's available through the band or on iTunes.

This was an opening set for Murder By Death.

I won't rave about Vampire Hands too much here. They're super sick both live & in the studio. They're one of the best Twin Cities bands right here & now. The interwebs will agree with me. The Wrong Crowd (Kansas City, MO) and Velvet Davenport (Minneapolis) opened. If you check out either of those bands I'm pretty sure you will not be disappointed. This was to be my first 24 bit recording but we'll have to wait on that (thanks Sony).

A huge thanks to the bands for allowing this audio documentation.

Culture Bully has provided exceptional coverage of the show.

Hey, it looks like this torrent is still alive and kickin' if anyone is interested:

New End Original tapes...

From past discussions with him I think Jonah is cool with what I do. I don't think he's always necessarily cool with tons and tons of live stuff being posted online. Well, this is a gesture with the best intent of keeping the music alive & out there for those that would like to hear it. Jade Tree put out "Thriller" the only album New End Original ever recorded. There is also a "Lukewarm" single with 2 non-album b-sides. I highly encourage you to check these out from your online or offline record shop of choice. They are and will always remain timeless releases.

Much respect to Jonah, Norman Arenas, Scott Winegard, Charlie Walker, Jeremy Tappero, David Jarnstrom and Robert Lindsey. See also; Texas Is The Reason, Chamberlain, Far & Attention.

A friend of mine recorded these New End shows and was kind enough to loan me the master minidiscs so they could be digitally transfered for the first time ever.

Thanks to Adam and The Turf Club we can all blast this from our stereos of choice as the Fall sets in. Ice Palace isn't just one of the best live bands in the Twin Cities right now...I've got money that says they're one of the best live bands in the country right now. If you're lucky maybe they'll play a town near you soon.

Yourself & the Air (Chicago), Pomegranates (Cincinnati) & The Dirty Colors opened. This is the end of the July '09 Turf Club marathon...

La Dispute come to Minneapolis...

La Dispute's November 2008 album "Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair" didn't find it's way to me until 6 months ago but it came at the perfect time. I've been waiting for them to hit town every since. To my knowledge this will be their first time playing Minneapolis. On the down side it's likely to be a short opening set on a 4 band bill. On the up side they'll be playing in front of Thursday crowds which I'm sure will secure them some new fans. Besides the myspace La Dispute has a blog for more information on the band. Thursday has put together an interesting tour. I've taped Young Widows twice and have heard good things about The Fall of Troy for a few years. Here's hoping Thursday's tour manager and the Varsity's new sound engineer are cool with mic stands.

All shows are Thursday w/ The Fall of Troy, La Dispute & Young Widows.

GFE were to play Minneapolis the summer of '07 but I believe the show was canceled on the venue side. They came back summer '08 but I was unable to attend. Finally caught up with them in St. Paul, as this recording demonstrates I'm certainly glad I did. These guys tour hard and you still have a couple weeks to catch them as they head back out East. The new album "From Fathoms" is out on Mylene Sheath Records.

Gifts From Enola, Falcon Arrow and peoplearemagnets opened for Paragraphs.

Thanks to the Turf Club for being the Midway spot.

I was vaugely familiar with Egglestone & Falkous's former band mclusky but I had been sleeping on Future of the Left. A friend had asked if I wanted his spare ticket. It was a chance to see what these guys were up to and to also catch STNNNG again. Have you ever felt like you were in the right place at the right time? I'm so glad I attended this show. The band was fine with it being shared online as long as it was a good representation of the show and that I believe it is. Being so close to the PA it's hard to not make a good tape at the Turf unless you're taping a folk show with bar patrons talking over the music. It's pretty impossible to talk over FOTL. Go see these guys and buy a record if you get the chance.
